CALL FOR PAPERS AND CREATIVE WORKS! Understanding VISUAL Music 2011 - August 26th and 27th, 2011 in Montreal, Canada

Hexagram-Concordia Centre for Research Creation in Media Arts and Technologies in collaboration with the Department of Music at Concordia University present "Understanding VISUAL Music 2011," a two-day conference focused on developing an understanding of the practice of visual music, its definition, related creative and perceptual considerations, current trends, technological innovation, and possible future directions.

The event will take place on August 26 & 27, 2011 and will include paper sessions, roundtable discussions, and creative works presentations.

UVM 2011 is inviting researchers to present studies that address visual music's multiple definitions and dimensions, questions around visual music aesthetics and meaning, hierarchy and correlation of sound and image in this context, and the audience's perception thereof. Artists are also invited to propose visual music presentations -- both live and fixed. Attendance is required in both cases.

CALL FOR ENTRIES! Punto y Raya Festival 2011 - "The most abstract festival in the world"

Punto y Raya Festival explores the ultimate synthesis of the form·movement duality in different spheres of human endeavour. Due to the simplicity of its criteria, it seeks to reveal the limitations and achievements of our representation systems using abstraction's prime matter.

This entry call is addressed to audiovisual pieces built up entirely from dots and lines. No representation whatsoever, just dots and lines as ends in themselves!

No entry fee and the deadline is July 4, 2011.

No figuration, no perspective, just dots and lines as ends in themselves! An amazing challenge to study and reflect upon the essence of form and movement. Can you take it?

Punto y Raya Festival – Back to Basics - Call for entries for the 2007 festival

Punto y Raya is the new Dot and Line Festival in Spain, which is returning to abstraction in its most basic form. The competition will accept only those films in which these basic lines and dots avoid all figuration and all narrative. This challenge is open and free to filmmakers worldwide.
