Although paper, film and video resources are important to our mission, people are undoubtedly the most tremendously valuable resource that we can harness to spread and encourage the exchange of ideas and artistic possibilities, as well as historical knowledge of techniques past. Currently we are fulfilling this area of our mission through our list serv, email newsletter, and our online social networking site, The Visual Music Village. In these virtual spaces, artists and programmers can announce upcoming shows and events, community members can discuss the merits and pitfalls of newly available technological tools, scholars can post inquiries for information on a particular technique or film, and much more.

Community extends into each of the other three programs as well. As community members attend an iota salon and learn about new works and meet other members, potential collaborations are realized. As a scholar comes to the Study Center, learns about the history of the optical printer and publishes an article, new people are exposed to these concepts and there is potential for classroom discussion. When iota preserves the films of a previously unknown filmmaker and exhibits them with a panel discussion, attendees can engage with the filmmakers and/or preservationists about the history of these films and the circumstances of their creation.

Colored Rhythm is in no way an illustration or an interpretation of a musical work. It is an art in itself, even if it is based on the same psychological facts as music.
