Elfriede Fischinger Memorial
Eulogy for Elfriede
Larry Cuba
I was born on the day Elfriede Fischinger was celebrating her 40th birthday. When we met 24 years later, I found that sharing the same birthday with Elfriede forged a special bond between us. I fondly remember celebrating many birthdays together and on the phone when we couldn't be together. It was an annual ritual that I will always cherish and will sorely miss.

Birthday Celebration, 1985, Wonderland Park Ave.

Like so many, I first wanted to meet Elfriede because she was the wife of a great artist whose work had had a profound effect on me. But it did not take long to realize that Elfriede was a person whom you wanted to know not because she was the wife of Oskar, but because she was Elfriede. The special, the extraordinary, Elfriede.
Elfriede not only shared with us Oskar's work. She inspired us. She gave us hope. She brought us together as a community and as a cause. Today this community of artists whom she inspired is a testament to her efforts and for that we will be eternally grateful.
Elfriede was admired and loved by the animation and film community throughout the world
For her tireless enthusiasm for abstract art and the art of animation.
For her absolutely unique personality
For her notorious feistiness
For her unbridled sense of humor
For her endearing accent
For her uncompromising ideals and above all,
For her irrepressible spirit.
We who were fortunate enough to know her were touched by that spirit.
The spirit of Elfriede will live on in all of us forever.
