Artist's Profile: Barbel Neubauer





Bärbel Neubauer has been making docu- mentaries, live-action and animation films since 1980. Her most recent film ROOTS won the award for best abstract film at the Zagreb Festival. Born in Klagenfurt, Austria, she studied at the Academy of Arts in Vienna and completed her first film ROSAMUNDE in 1983. Painting on film, as she did in ALGORITHEMS, takes her about one month per minute of film. Neubauer does camera and sound work on films and commercials and teaches animation work- shops in Munich. For the last few years, she has also composed music for films (she plays the saxophone).
