Artist Profile: Lejf Marcussen
William Moritz
Lejf Marcussen has been making "non-verbal" films since 1973. Born in Aabenraa, Denmark, he studied at the Danish Academy of Art before joining Danmarks Radio-TV as a graphic designer in 1972. At Danmarks, he was able to ex- periment and produce abstract films in his off-hours. Like Norman McLaren (whom he credits as a major influence), Marcussen has found inspiration in music and motion. He has been the subject of retrospectives in Canada, England, France and the US, and in 1990 he received the Norman McLaren Heritage Award for his body of work.
