Seven Animations by Dennis Miller
Seven Animations DVD reviewed by David Finkelstein, FilmThreat.com
The seven works on this collection represent Dennis Miller's output over a six-year period, from 1999 to 2005. From the earliest work, "Residue," to the most recent, "Cross Contours," Miller has been exploring ways in which the techniques of musical composition can be applied to sequences of visual images. In some cases, these techniques were applied in deliberate and almost systematic ways, while in others, a more intuitive approach was adopted.

Music Animation Machine DVD #1
Director: Stephen Malinowski
Music moves, and can be understood just by listening. But a conventional musical score stands still, and can be understood only after years of training. The Music Animation Machine bridges this gap, with a score that moves -- and can be understood just by watching. The experience of watching the Music Animation Machine is a remarkable awakening to the inner structure of music.

Glenn McKay, Altered States
Glenn McKay's video will capture your mind with incredible colors and movement set to music from four decades. In four movements, the video starts with vintage rock from Jefferson Airplane, set to McKay's early 60s pulsating sensory overload style. The 70s evolve into a tweaky sound track by Knox Bronson, electronic culture mastermind, with scenes from McKay's world travels in a highly abstracted form. The 80s movement travels into pure geometric and color abstractions, with an uplifting soundtrack by Dean Evenson. The 90s movement goes deep into fantastic liquid color landscapes with a dark, electronic music voyage crafted by Greg Jalbert in collaboration with McKay.

Visual Music Instrument Patents: Volume One
by Michael Betancourt
A collection of primary source documents for visual music instruments, often called "color organs," gleaned from the United States Patent Office. Information about these devices is often only available through the inventor's patent applications, but these applications are not currently available except through the time-consuming process of searching Patent Office databases. This volume is an informational resource for those instruments that are already known and studied (Bishop, Rimington, Wilfred, Fischinger), and includes a number of patents for other instruments that have not been examined as thoroughly (Munsell, Hallock-Greenwalt, others). Volume One also includes a few patents that are related to visual music instruments such as systems of notation for writing visual music and devices for determining "color harmony" through a relationship to musical form.

Relative Orbits: Films by Joanna Priestley
"I have enjoyed her work for years. You have to see this." - Gus Van Sant
Joanna Priestley's DVD includes eight classic films and two documentaries. In "Voices, " Priestley gets across a series of personal phobias in a refreshing and humorous fashion. "She-Bop" features a goddess on a rampage. "All My Relations" is an inventive, hilarious satirization of the pitfalls of romance and "Candyjam" is a whimsical taste of confection by ten filmmakers from four countries. Other films on the DVD are, "Pro and Con," "After the Fall," "Hand Held," and "Grown Up." Bonus features include two documentaries, "Relative Orbits," a 13-minute tour of Joanna Priestley's studio and "Amazons and Ingenues," a 12-minute behind-the-scenes look at how "Voices," "She-Bop," "Pro and Con" and "Grown Up" were made.
