Seven Animations by Dennis Miller

The seven works on this collection represent my output over a six-year period, from 1999 to 2005. From the earliest work, Residue, to the most recent, Cross Contours, I have been exploring way in which the techniques of musical composition can be applied to sequences of visual images. In some cas4s, these techniques were applied to deliberate and almost systematic ways, while in others, a more intuitive approach was adopted.

All but the newest work use of POVray Scene Description language (www.povray.org), a public domain image compiler for the synthesis of the images. I would like to thank the members of the POVray community for their help as I learned the many aspects of this powerful software. I have also used a variety of musical tool, including the Kyma System from Symbolic Sound and Barry Vercoe’s Csound, for the generation of the music.

This collection is dedicated to my family: Susan, Leah and Hanna, with love and admiration.
